The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 5 Self Help

Episode 5 of Walking Dead Season 5 airs Sunday night on AMC. So will the gang successfully reach Washington, DC in “Self Help”?

Last week on Walking Dead Season 5, we finally found out what happened to poor Beth (Emily Kinney). She woke up in a hospital, where she met officer Dawn (Christine Woods) and started working for Dr. Steven Edwards (Erik Jensen). But she soon found out that this hospital was just as bad as the outside world. She was physically and sexually abused and unwittingly helped kill another patient. Thankfully, she did make one new friend named Noah (Tyler James Williams) who took the blame(and a subsequent beating) for the patient’s death.

“You have a girl who’s coming into this situation, doesn’t know all of the rules, doesn’t know who these people are and what they’re capable of,” Williams said of Noah’s reason for taking the beating for Beth on Walking Dead Season 5. “And he knows that he can take the beating and then get back in Dawn’s good graces at some point. She may not be able to. At the end of the day, he’s down to sacrifice that for this girl that seems pretty innocent.”

Both Noah and Beth ultimately realized that they were better off fighting zombies on their own than being stuck in this Walking Dead hospital. So they came up with a smart escape plan. Sadly, only Noah escaped, leaving Beth behind. Beth knew she had do something to get out, so she grabbed some sort of knife. But before she could attack her captors, she saw Carol (Melissa McBride) shockingly wheeled into the hospital.

“There’s almost a numbness and a fearlessness and there’s no filter anymore,” Kinney said of her character’s mindset at the end of last week’s Walking Dead Season 5. “She’s not trying to make friends with anyone here. She’s just going by gut instinct, like if she wants to grab a knife and stab someone, she’s gonna do it. … . But then I do think that moment where she sees Carol does snap her out of it, and she starts to remember her family and she thinks, oh, maybe we can do something here. It’s not just me on my own in this place now.”

So what will happen in Episode 5 of Walking Dead Season 5? The synopsis for “Self Help” reveals that the group will confront new problems during a mission. Presumably this is in reference to Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) journey to DC with Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
