I’m going to go ahead and assume that the title of tonight’s new episode of Arrow doesn’t refer to David Blaine or Pavel Datsyuk.
Instead, “The Magician” could be talking about Ra’s al Ghul, who we’re supposed to see for the first time tonight — though he reportedly won’t come face-to-face with Oliver Queen until later in the season. The famous Batman villain is getting pulled into the Arrow’s world due to his daughter, Nyssa al Ghul, who showed up last week none too pleased that Sara Lance hadn’t reported back to the League of Assassins. When she finds out what really happened to Sara … bad things man, bad things.
It’s also quite possible there might be some misguided anger toward Malcolm Merlyn, given that it was an archer who killed Sara and he’s certainly got the requisite skills. Of course we don’t know for sure he wasn’t the killer, but it seems unlikely. And how will the new, more dangerous Thea Queen fit into all this now that she’s returned to Starling City?
A furious Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) confronts Oliver (Stephen Amell) about Sara. When Oliver learns Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) is alive, he suspects Merlyn killed Sara. Oliver and Nyssa join forces and go after the Dark Archer, intent on bringing Sara’s killer to justice. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) keeps her distance from Nyssa, as she blames her sister’s death on her involvement with the League of Assassins. Meanwhile, Oliver and Roy (Colton Haynes) work on repairing their respective relationships with Thea (Willa Holland), who has returned home. Nyssa discusses Oliver with her father, Ra’s al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable). John Behring directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Marc Guggenheim.
There’s bound to be more on the Laurel Lance front as well, given that she accepted Ted Grant’s offer to teach her to fight after being rebuffed by Oliver. Once she’s fully trained, that should give her a contrasting style to Ollie and could make for some entertaining fight sequences. You know, if she ever becomes Black Canary. Wink, wink.
